The Levees Didn't Fail - a four-part series by Windell Curole  This article gives insight to what happened with the levees in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.

Boudreaux's Battle by Victor Alarcon:  "After originally departing to the Gulf of Mexico region in Louisiana to cover the spill, we were made aware of a much deeper seeded battle that has been ongoing for quite some time in the area, Louisiana's Coastal Erosion. The spill, which is only a momentary battle of the ongoing coastal erosion war, created an opportunity to bring to light a story often forgotten or unknown outside of "Boudreaux's Land". This documentary explores the causes, the effects, and the solutions of Louisiana's Coastal erosion, and not only what it means for Louisiana, but America in general."

Coming Soon--  Radio Rotary - General Manager Windell Curole does a series on the oil spill and how it has affected our economy.

Our Goal is...

...to provide, within our levee system, the highest possible level of protection from flooding due to high tides, heavy rainfalls, tropical storms and hurricanes for the safety and well being of the community of South Lafourche.

South Lafourche Levee District was signed into existence on June 2, 1970 under the name of South Louisiana Tidal Water Control Levee District by then Governor John McKeithen.  In 1978 the name was changed to South Lafourche Levee District.

The South Lafourche Levee District office is located in Galliano, Louisiana.  The hurricane protection system consists of over 48 miles of ring levee and has 33,400 acres within the flood protection system.  There are 6 pumping stations within the system.  The total acreage of the levee district exceeds 439,000.
