The South Lafourche Levee District currently has the following projects under construction in an ongoing effort to improve the flood protection for the area:

Sections C-North & C-South: Material has recently been excavated from the existing borrow canal on the west side of the system in Larose.  As this material dries, it is being used to raise the levee section up from an elevation of +10’ to an elevation of +12’ to +13’.

Sections C-South, B-North and B-South: On the west side of the system from Cut-Off to Galliano, construction is planned to begin by the early fall of 2010 to stockpile and dry borrow material which will provide major improvements to the levee stability and raise the area from an existing elevation of about +12’ up to a proposed elevation of  +13’ in the north and +15’ in the south.

Section A-West: On the west side of the system in Golden Meadow, construction is being planned to raise that section up from +13’ to +16’.

Section E-North: On the east side in Cut-Off (Clovelly Farms) construction is planned to begin in the early fall of 2010 to raise this area from an elevation of +10’ to an elevation of +13’. 

Section E-South: In Cut-Off (south of Clovelly Farms), a project is being planned to raise that section up from +11’ to +14’.

Section D-South: On the east side in Galliano, a project is ongoing to raise the levee up from +10’ to +13’ with additional improvements being planned to raise the section up to +15’ by 2011.

Section A-East: In Golden Meadow on the east side, a project was completed in May of 2010 to raise the levee up from +12’ to +16’.

Golden Meadow Floodwalls: The Corps of Engineers has completed raising a section of Floodwall in Golden Meadow on the east side and is planning a similar project at the Town of Golden Meadow Floodwall on the west side.

Larose Pipeline I-Walls: Bids were received in July of 2010 to begin raising three pipeline I-Walls in Larose on the west side of the system up from an existing elevation of +8’ to a planned elevation +15’.  Construction is expected to be complete in the Fall of 2010.

Section F: On the east side of the system in Larose, construction is ongoing to raise a section of levee up from +10’ to +13’.
